First off I’d like to say thank you for the support all of you have given us. ZWC 1 and 2 were amazing events that would not be possible without the zombies community.
I’m writing this to give you a quick update on where we’ve been and where we’re going. The topics I’m going to discuss are:
- The Website (Now www.zwc.gg)
- The Future
After ZWC 2, we realized that we needed to really think about the future of ZWC. Are we just an annual event or can we be something more? If we are something more, what do we need to do to make that happen?
After a week of recovering from the event, the first thing we looked at was our website. While I liked the look and feel of the site at the time we launched it, it became very clear it was developed in a way that limited us on scalability. We couldn’t update it quickly. Our goal is to be an esports platform for the zombies community. The way the site was built didn’t not allow us to do that.
In September, we started researching a ton of esports website templates and came across a theme by the name of Arcane. What we liked about Arcane was that it has the ability to allow users to create a profile and it had some aesthetics and functionality we liked. We’ve spent the last few months customizing the theme to fit our style and needs. If you’re interested in what the template can do, heres a link to the themeforest page: Arcane Theme
The next step was to come up with a solution for record keeping, leaderboards and challenges. The last 2 events taught us a great deal. For one, manually updating submissions is really time consuming and counter productive. I hated taking the time we took to update the leaderboards for all the players that participated in the comp last summer.
We created a plugin that manages the approval process, submissions and challenge creation. We can now create a board or challenge in an instant and approve submissions effectively. BIG shout out to NoobeyGaming for his input.
This is version 1.0 of the plugin and the new site. We will continue to make improvements. Please don’t hesitate to send us your thoughts and comments. We value your insight. You can contact us on our chat widget in the bottom right of this site or on Discord and Twitter.
We’re excited for the future. Besides record keeping, we’ll be having challenges on a daily and weekly basis that either we or someone from the community will produce. We’re also very happy to announce Season 1 of the Zombies World League will start in January. Please stay tuned for more details on that.
Now, ZWC3. All I can say at the moment is we’ll be working hard behind the scenes to make this event happen. As soon as we have more info, I’ll make sure to let you know.
